This incredible performance now stands as the new fastest time recorded globally in 2025 and a personal best. Furthermore, it equals the National Stadium record, a mark previously set by Yohan Blake at 9.75 seconds in 2012, which had surpassed Usain Bolt’s 9.76 from 2008. This monumental achievement places Thompson as the fourth fastest Jamaican sprinter ever, behind only Usain Bolt (9.58), Yohan Blake (9.69), and Asafa Powell (9.72).

The National Stadium erupted as Thompson, running with a favorable wind of +0.8m/s, solidified his dominance and secured the highly coveted national title. The race was a testament to Jamaica’s formidable sprint depth, with Oblique Seville (Racers Track & Field Club) finishing a close second in a blistering 9.83 seconds, a time that matches the previous world-leading mark for the year set by Trayvon Bromell. Rounding out the podium was Ackeem Blake (Dynamic Speed Track Club), who demonstrated immense power to claim third place with an outstanding 9.88 seconds. All three medalists also achieved the World Championships qualification standard.

In a remarkable progression of his career, Thompson’s 2025 victory builds on his impressive performance from the previous year. On June 28, 2024, Kishane Thompson had already powered to what was then a massive personal best and world lead of 9.77 seconds to win the Men’s 100m trials. In that 2024 race, he finished ahead of Oblique Seville who clocked 9.82 seconds, with Ackeem Blake securing third in 9.93 seconds. This consistent sub-9.80 running highlights Thompson’s sustained improvement and formidable presence in global sprinting.

The 2025 final saw other exceptional performances, underscoring the depth of talent. Ryiem Forde (Empire Athletics) finished fourth in a sub-10 time of 9.98 seconds, also securing a World Championships qualifying mark. Rohan Watson (MVP Track & Field Club, 10.04), Kadrian Goldson (Sprintec Track Club, 10.07), Bouwahjgie Nkrumie (Racers Track & Field Club, 10.09), and Bryan Levell (Uptimum, 10.43) completed the final.
